In January we stayed a couple of nights in Loughlin, NV and did a some day trips to attractions in the sourounding area. One of the them was Nelson Ghost Town. A really interesting place at an old gold mine. On another day we went to Oatman on the old Route 66. A very unique town with wild burros roaming the streets.
In May 2025 we did a road trip from Phoenix to the Oregon Pacific coast and back. On our way we visited Bryce Canyon, crossed Nevada on US 50 (The Loneliest Road in America), visited some waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge, stayed a couple of days in 3 places on the Pacific Coast. On the way back we visited America's tallest trees in the northern part of California, the Redwood Forest, Stayed overnight in Tonopah, Nevada where we found a piano made in Vienna, Austria more than 100 years ago. For Gerda's birthday we went to Santa Fe in New Mexico. And in September we celebrated 5 birthdays in Austria.
In January 2024 we went on a Mexican Riviera cruise round trip from Los Angeles. In March we went to the Luke Days Airshow at the Luke Airforce base in Glendale, Arizona. It is always a great event to see military aircraft up close and and the skills of the pilots performing in the airshow. In April we went for 3 short weeks to Austria to see family the first time since 2019.
The Alaska vacation in September was our birthday present. We went on a 7 day cruise out of Vancouver, Canada to Anchorage and added a 11 day land tour from Anchorage to Fairbanks, Alaska. Princess cruises operates 5 lodges in Alaska and we stayed in each of their lodges 2 nights. The land tour was the most impressive part of this trip. The cruise stopped in Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. These are small towns along the cost, but the land tour went from Anchorage all the way up to Fairbanks in the middle of Alaska. There where several highlights on this trip. Fall foliage, Train ride, Denali National Park, Gold panning and a visit to a native village. At the end of the trip on our flight from Fairbanks to Anchorage we saw the northern lights from the plane.
In January we went to Puerto Peñasco, also know as Rocky Point in Mexico. In April we went to Charleston, South Carolina. This town on the middle of the American East coast is a charming town with a lot of history. We visited 2 plantations and got a lot of information about slavery and the plantations.
In September we went to Las Vegas, New Mexico and stayed in historic Plaza Hotel in the center of Las Vegas. In October we visited Horseheads, NY and enjoyed the beautiful fall foliage of the Northeast and we celebrated my retirement from Salient Corporation.
In January we stayed at a B&B in Sedona and took a couple of small trips in the beautiful area of Sedona. In August we stayed a night at the historic La Posada hotel in Winslow, AZ.
In January we did a 3 day weekend trip with our Harley's Owner Group (HOG) to Tombstone. During this trip we went for breakfast to a ghost town called Lowell just south of Bisbee. After breakfast we went to Chiricahua National Monument. Here is the link to the pictures from this trip.
Last week in January we went on a road trip to Padre Island, Texas. It took us 2 days to get there. We had rented a vacation rental with balcony facing west on the intracoastal waterway. We had a a great week of relaxing vacation with lots of fresh seafood. The sand on the beach is very fine and perfect to drive on. See pictures. Here is a little video from my drone.
End of March we went camping for a week in the White Tank Mountains.The White Tank Mountain Regional Park is a large regional park located in west-central Maricopa County, Arizona. Encompassing 29,271 acres (45.736 sq mi; 118.456 km2) of desert and mountain landscape, it is the largest regional park in the county. The bulk of the White Tank Mountains range is located within the park's boundaries. There are plenty of hiking trails within the park. Here are some pictures from our camping trip.
